Quality
The GMC quality assure training schemes and Trusts by triangulating data from a variety of sources. The School of Psychiatry and its partner Trusts have developed processes to ensure that posts, trainers, Trusts and Schemes all meet the necessary standards. These pages bring together all the necessary resources, and sources of information. Quality management has several components:
The Trainee Doctor consolidates the foundation and specialty including GP standards for training, and incorporates the standards for deaneries. There is now one set of standards for all postgraduate medical education and training, from the Foundation Programme to the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), published in one document, The Trainee Doctor (pdf). This underpins all School quality processes
Quality matrix - the RCPsych has reinterpreted the GMC standards, with specific relevance to psychiatry. There are responsibilities for Trusts, Tutors, Trainers and Trainees Read More>>
Surveys - these are at the heart of the Quality process. The School and Trusts will be running several surveys per year to anticipate and pre-empt the findings of the annual GMC survey Read More>>
Post Approvals
GMC set to Approve Tainers. However, we are well on the way to meeting most of these standards, but there will be some changes ahead no doubt. Please do remember to notify us of any changes affecting the trainee job descriptions, including a change of ES. Please ensure that you continue to update the mandatory training via Train the Trainer days, WPBAs, Completing the Educational Supervisors reports (coming soon), Preparing for the ARCP, Supervising GP Trainees, Doctors in Difficulty, Educational Supervision, Ethics and other school events.
Trainers wanting to take on Educational Supervisor roles should discuss with their Directors for Medical Education the possiblity of moving exiting training posts within their Trust. If the DME agrees to reallocate training posts, then please ask them to complete Form 1. Once this has been done Forms 2 - 6 should be completed by the applicant and submitted to Samantha Abbott (sam@manchesterpsychiatry.net) to be processed for approval. Please not that this can take up to two months to complete.
Changes to existing posts should be made using the post approval forms. The forms are:
- Form 1: Application
- Form 2: Job description
- Form 3: Trainee timetable
- Form 4: Trainer timetable
- Form 5: Learning objective
- Form 6: Educational superisor details
